Marseille!

We ended up staying an extra night in marseille to catch an overnight train to Rome (Where we caught a flight to Istanbul).
It was fantastic! We stayed with the most beautiful and generous little family in a neat part of town.
It was so great to catch up on a bit of rest!

SUPERPOST

So, have not posted in like a week!
Let's see, since Paris we've been to... Le Mans, Madrid, Barcelona, marseille, Istanbul, and now Prague!
La Mans, Madrid and Barcelona are all such a blur. I was so sleep deprived I really forgot to take pictures,
So I'll really briefly describe each night in a word or two...
La Mans: great show, really really nice people. Amazing food. Cool little college town. Drunk kid stumbled up and got in a fight with the owner of the bar; pulled a knife out. It was weird.
Madrid: don't remember much from Madrid; we took an overnight train out of Paris and I didn't sleep at all (AT ALL)) this little elderly French man was trying to talk to me all night, even after I repeatedly told him I don't speak French, then he just stared in my direction.. It was very unsettling). I slept on the couch at the venue for most of it. Met some really nice people, more amazing food. Left early in the morning to catch our train. The train workers were protesting, so it made things very interesting.
Barcelona: really really raw.

Here are some stupid pictures::

Paris

After all of that fuss about getting to Paris, we had such a great time at the show. The venue was a crypt in an old church-- MV/EE was headlining.
Tons of people came! Daniel has never played to a bigger crowd! And MV/EE was totally amazing!
Last night we slept in the most beautiful apartment! You can even see the tip of the Eiffel Tower from our room!!

Today I hope to really walk around the city a bit more before we catch our train to Le Mans
So I might post more pictures of Paris later on today.
What a beautiful city!!!

A very nice man in France

Without this man we would not have made it to Paris.
We met him at the train station, he asked Daniel for a rolling paper.
He helped us to our train when we were lost in Lille, when we arrived in Paris he walked us to a subway stop, he GAVE us a couple subway tickets to use, and directed us to the venue Daniel was playing.

He later came to check out Daniels show, where he bought us beers! And we joked around and hung out for a bit. it was really really lovely.

His name is Oliver. He's kindness was really touching; Daniel and I both really hope to repay the favor someday.

Louvain la Neuve

So Louvain la Neuve may be in the running for 'sweetest-most-epic-venue-ever' on this trip. It was in a 700 YEAR OLD stable ( and we were sleeping in the 700 year old farmhouse). Daniel played a set before a screening of a documentary about a french underground comicbook artist.
It was dope.
They had posters from all their past shows-- jack rose, glen jones, larkin grimm, micah blue smaldone (the stable is actually where he recorded his 'Live in Belgium' record), paul metzger-- even kimya dawson!
They made us an incredible meal, too. It was really out of this world!

Gent

I wish we had more time in Gent,
its a really beautiful city and it seems to have such a great scene!
Daniel played a radio show pretty much as soon as we rolled into town at 2:00 (I'll post the link up here when i see it on the archive).  The show started at around 9:00, Daniel opened for this freaking awesome improvisational french/australian drummer in a wooden pyramid built by local artists.
saw some people from the Antwerp show! which was strangely comforting and refreshing-- like running into old friends.  Daniel played well, but he is sick right now with a cold so he was a bit miserable.
We stayed at the beautiful home of the man who organized the show. Nice and quiet, got lots of rest and had a huge breakfast of breads/cheeses/meats

We leave Gent today for Louvain la Neuve!! then to Paris!!!!

Haven't posted in a couple days!

wi fi is pretty hit-or-miss here.
Sooo since I last updated the blog, we've been to Brussels and Gent!
Brussels was great.  Stayed at Fred's apartment.  Fred is a school teacher in Brussels and totally had that sort of greatest-teacher-you-ever-had-super-nice-dude vibe; he also books small shows around Brussels.       We walked around a bit and saw the palace (which was just a couple blocks away from where we were staying), ate waffles out of a truck-- then ate AMAZING Lebanese food with Fred before the show.
Daniel played at in a small DIY space underneath a wood-shop.

Brussels:

I tried to take photos of the show but, yet again, it was very low light.
